The term "quiche" comes from the German word "kuchen" which stands for cake. Quiche is a dish that originated in the medieval kingdom of Lothringen which was under the rule of the Germans. As with many other things this dish soon became popular all over the world. In France the quiche is used to refer to a dish that is baked and based on custard. This custard is made from milk or cream and eggs in a pastry crust. In most cases the pastry shell is baked and then the other ingredients such as vegetables, cheese or cooked and chopped meat are added to the egg mixture. This mixture is then baked and the quiche served warm or cold as per your choice.
Basic Quiche Recipe
Ingredients
- Eggs (6 pieces)
- Pepper (to taste)
- Nutmeg (pinch)
- 1 pt. of Light Cream
- A 10 inch Pie Shell (unbaked)
- 1 tablespoon of Butter (softened)
- 1 c. of Cheese (grated)
- 1 tablespoon of Flour
- ¼ tablespoon of Salt
- ¼ c. of Cheese (parmesan)
- 2 tablespoons of Butter (melted and browned)
Procedure
- To begin take the butter and spread it at the bottom of the pie shell.
- Next sprinkle some of the Swiss cheese at the bottom of the piece shell too.
- Once both the steps are complete take the dry ingredients and sift them. Now add the cream and eggs to the ingredients and beat the mixture until it is mixed.
- Now pour the custard over the cheese and bake for 10 minutes at 450 degrees. Then reduce the temperature to 325 degrees and bake for another 25 minutes.
- When the 35 minutes are over remove the quiche from the oven and sprinkle with cheese and butter. That done, put it back into the oven for another 10 minutes.
- Last, take it out of the oven and cut into wedges and serve.
Tasty Breakfast Quiche Recipe

- 3 Eggs (beaten)
- ½ c. of Milk
- A 9 inch Pie Shell (unbaked)
- 4 oz. of Cheese (Mozzarella, shredded)

Ingredients
- A 9 inch Pie Shell (unbaked)
- ½ a cup of Butter
- 4 Eggs (beaten)
- A cup of Milk
- 3 cloves of Garlic (chopped)
- 1 small Onion
- 10 ounces of Spinach (chopped)
- 4.5 ounces of Mushrooms (drained)
- 6 ounces of herb and garlic Feta (crumbled)
- 8 ounces of Cheddar cheese (shredded)
- Salt and Pepper (to taste)
Procedure
- To begin preheat the oven to a temperature of 375 degrees.
- Next take a medium skillet and melt some butter in it. Now sauté some onion and garlic in the butter till it turns slightly brown.
- Once that is done put the mushrooms, spinach, feta and ½ a cup of cheddar cheese into it. Season this mixture with a little salt and pepper.

Ingredients
- 4 Eggs (beaten)
- A 9 inch Pie Shell
- 12 slices of Bacon
- ¾ teaspoon of Salt
- ¼ teaspoon of White Sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper
- A cup of Swiss cheese (shredded)
- 1/3 cup of Onion (minced)
- 2 cups of Light Cream
Procedure
- First preheat the oven to a temperature of 425 degrees.
- Next take a large skillet and put the bacon in it. Fry the bacon over a medium high flame. Once your have done that place the bacon on paper towels and chop them.
- Once that is done, take the cheese, onion and bacon and put it into the pie shell.

- 200 g. of Shortcrust Pastry

- To begin, line the flan tin and then roll out the pastry. Once that is over bake it blind at a temperature of 400 degrees. Brush it with the beaten egg.
- Now place the bacon in boiling water for 5 minutes and then drain and sauté lightly.
- Next whisk the eggs and then add the cream and beat both of them together. Use the pepper, salt and nutmeg as seasoning.
- In the pastry case, arrange the cheese and bacon. Once that is done pour the cream over it.
