Oscar History - Developing Stages
Oscar Award is the most esteemed award function of Hollywood, held on a yearly basis. It has taken the profile of a mammoth event and everybody connected, directly or indirectly, with Hollywood fervently awaits the enchanting Oscar night. The fame of Academy Awards has augmented tremendously over the years. In retrospect into the history of Oscars, we observe that the awards were the invention of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), established in 1927. The construction of the academy was a joint endeavor of 36 most well-known personalities of the film industry.
Awards and Recognitions - Sneak Peak into the Past
Movie artist Douglas Fairbanks Sr. was selected as the foremost president of the Academy. The chief idea behind the founding of the awards was to give credits to the brilliant actors of the movie industry. The first Academy Awards ceremony was prepared on May 16, 1929, at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, far from the glare of publicity. It was a very confidential and secluded event, with merely 270 people as guests. The awards were bestowed in the banquet, arranged at the hotel's Blossom Room. In those times, the tickets for the guest were priced at $5. Wonder what we'd do with 5$ now!
The opening Oscar ceremony included 12 categories, besides 2 special tributes. These awards were intended to respect people accountable for cinematic accomplishments in 1927 and 1928. There was a very diminutive component of surprise element at the first Oscar Awards function, as the names of the victors had been announced 3 months before. The complete function was a stretched out one, crammed with speeches.
The first Oscar award for Best Actor was swept away by Swiss-born German tragedian Emil Jannings (for 'The Last Command' and 'The Way of All Flesh'). The actor had to get back to Europe prior to the ceremony, so he appealed to the Academy to give him the award before time. His demand was acknowledged, making his Oscar statuette the very first Academy Award to be ever handed. The award for Best Actress went to Janet Gaynor, for 'Seventh Heaven', 'Street Angel' and 'Sunrise'. There were two awards in Direction, for Dramatic Picture and Comedic Picture, bagged by Frank Borzage and Lewis Milestone, correspondingly.
Broadcast
From the time of its conception, Oscar ceremony has been in public broadcast. Until 1953, radio broadcast used to go on and subsequently, the ceremony was screened on television. Through the earliest decade, the outcome of the award ceremony was given to the media for publication at 11 in the night., during the night of the award function. Conversely, the scheme was ruined by Los Angeles Times, when it declared the victors much before commencement of the function. It was in view of this fact that a concealed envelope is used to disclose the name of the winners.
In 1966 the telecast of Oscar function took place in color. This permitted the audience to experience the glittering magnetism of the event from the comfort of their homes. Subsequently, there was no looking back and the fame of the awards function reached undefeatable elevation. In the present day, Oscars are broadcasted globally, reaching film enthusiasts in over 200 countries. Ever since 2002, the awards have been transmitted from the Kodak Theatre, gripping the local as well as worldwide spectators.
Believe it or not, this trophy gained so much value, that in the year 2000, barely a few weeks before the Academy Awards, the Oscars were filched while they were being bought from Chicago. They were found a week later, but not before some menacing days had gone by.
