  • Vitamin C helps in increasing the breakdown of alcohol within the body. It is therefore advisable for people experiencing hangovers to consume juices of citrus fruits in the morning. Water is also helpful in draining the alcohol from the body. Drinking water also helps in replenishing the fluids in the body since alcohol causes dehydration.
  • Honey has fructose contents and these can help in breaking down of the alcohol and can prove to be helpful in treating hangovers. Vitamin B capsules can aid in reducing the duration of hangovers and so these should also be taken.
  • Thyme can prove to be amongst the best home remedies for hangovers. Tea can be made using 5 to 6 leaves of thyme. These thyme leaves should be placed in a container and after filling it with water the water should be allowed to simmer on heat for 5 minutes. The leaves should be removed before drinking the liquid. Headache is common during a hangover and aspirin can give immediate relief from this headache. Another effective way to deal with the problem of headache following a hangover is to apply a cold pack to the forehead. Willow bark is an organic alternative for aspirin and can be taken to deal with the problem of a headache.
  • One of the best cures for hangovers include drinking a concoction made by adding 2 teaspoon of fresh lime juice and 1 teaspoon of sugar in around 8 ounces of water. This liquid should be consumed slowly and it can prove to be a rather effective home remedy for hangovers.
  • A hot water bath can also be effective in eliminating hangovers and the associated toxins from the body. Consuming excess alcohol also causes excess urination and this in turn results in elimination of potassium from the body. Banana is naturally rich in potassium and so eating banana can cure hangovers. Likewise you can also boil two peels of banana in a cup of water and drink the liquid. This is one of the most effective cures for hangovers.
  • Another effective way of eliminating hangovers is to add some lemon juice to a cup of black coffee and drinking it without milk and sugar. Likewise homemade soup broth can also replenish salts and potassium in the body and help you to recover from the hangover.
  • Coffee helps in reducing the swelling of the blood vessels that can cause a headache and so a few cups of coffee can help you to relieve the headache associated with the hangover. However consumption of coffee should be restricted to a few cups only. Eating a good meal is essential since it can help in providing the essential nutrients to the body.
  • Ginger root can also be used to treat hangovers. You can drink some ginger ale or ginger tea. To make this concoction you can take some slices of fresh ginger root and add this to around 4 cups of water. Let the water boil for ten minutes and after straining add the juice of an orange to this liquid along with the juice of one lemon and a little bit of honey. Rest is just as important to recover from a hangover.
  • For preventing hangovers it is important to ensure that you are not drinking on an empty stomach. A full stomach slows down the rate of alcohol absorption. Likewise it is always advisable to drink slowly. Slow drinking allows less alcohol to reach the brain. Also it is important that you consume plenty of water after drinking alcohol since alcohol tends to dehydrate the body.
