Pregnancy is the cause of much joy and celebration in every woman's life. However a large number of women have to go through the painful experience of a miscarriage. Miscarriage is a term used to explain the situation where pregnancy is spontaneously ended before 20 weeks of the pregnancy period or term is completed.

Statistics reveal that as many as 10 to 20 percent of the pregnancies often end up in miscarriages. Every one out of 5 pregnant women is at a risk of suffering from a miscarriage. The reasons for miscarriages include infection, hormonal changes, uterus problems, problems with the mother's immune system and genetic abnormalities. There are however some early signs of miscarriage that can be identified and thus can help women to seek professional help for themselves. The range of signs reflecting a possible miscarriage may differ in each individual case and it also depends on the extent to which the pregnancy is advanced. However some of the most common signs of miscarriage are:

  • Vag**** bleeding together with pain can be a sign of miscarriage. This is because some women tend to experience light bleeding through their pregnancy so the pain factor is particularly important and crucial. Also there could be gray tissue discharge along with blood during a miscarriage.
  • Vag**** discharge including white-pink discharge is a cause for concern. Discharge of a considerable amount of fluid from the vag*** without pain or bleeding can also be a sign of miscarriage.
  • Extreme pain in the lower abdomen or pelvic area together with continuous ache in the lower back region is a cause for concern. Cramps that can be compared to the pain a woman experiences during the period should not be ignored either.
  • Tender breasts and nausea is often a sign of pregnancy and the absence of these signs and not 'feeling' pregnant may be indicative towards miscarriage. Likewise, lack of movement on the part of the fetus can also indicate towards miscarriage.
  • Typically in the event of a miscarriage the cervix opens and this allows a part or entire contents of the uterus to pass out through the vag***. So an opened cervix during an examination is a cause for worry.
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Intense pain or contractions in the abdomen
  • Dizziness and nausea and other problems such as vomiting and fever.
  • Passing of blood clots through the vag***

The common signs of miscarriage depend upon and differ according to the period of pregnancy. During early periods the miscarriage includes excessive vag**** bleeding. This is when miscarriages occur before 6 weeks. A miscarriage occurring between 6 weeks and 12 weeks is accompanied by cramping or moderate pain and bleeding. Miscarriages occurring after the 12 week period may involve pain and bleeding and the pain is almost as intense as during labor. In the event of a miscarriage a woman often experiences discomfort and spotting. Other signs may include fever, heavy bleeding and chills. While these signs do not necessarily result in a miscarriage or for that matter confirm the occurrence of a miscarriage, it is in the best interest for the woman to contact and seek medical help if any such signs are noted.
