String of Ghosts

Things You Will Need Are:

  • Some Construction Paper
  • Crayons or Markers
  • A Pair of Scissors
  • Some Glue, Staples or Tape
  • A Long Piece of Black Yarn

How to Make the String of Ghosts:

  • First draw a ghost on white paper. While doing so, ensure that you draw a long stem on top as your ghost will hang from this stem, which will later be folded over.
  • Next cut the ghost and use a black marker or crayon to make the nose, eyes and mouth. Once you have done that fold the ghost’s stem completely behind it.
  • Now attach the ghost to the long black string using glue, tape or staples.

Hatchling Spiders

Things You Will Need Are:

  • 2 Bowls
  • A Balloon
  • A Pin
  • Some White Glue
  • Spoon (Plastic)
  • Cheesecloth (Cut into 12 pieces of 3x18 inch strips)
  • Clear Fishing Line
  • A Few Plastic Spiders

How to Make the Hatchling Spiders:

  • First empty the contents of the bottle of glue into a bowl. Then fill the empty bottle halfway with water and shake it to dilute any glue that remains in the bottle. Now add the contents into the bowl and stir the mixture in the bowl well.
  • Next take the balloon and inflate it to about 9 inches in height and put it away in another bowl. Then take the cheesecloth and dip each one individually into the glue. Remember to squeeze out the excess fluid gently. Once that is done, spread the cheesecloth strips flat on the balloon. When covering the balloon leave 3 to 4 small gaps and a 1 ½ inch opening around the knot to tie the spiders on later. Once this step is complete, let the glue dry. You can rotate the balloon occasionally to help in the drying process.
  • Now that the balloon is dry, pop it with a pin and remove it. Then tie a loop to hang the egg at one end of a long piece of fishing line. Once that is done, insert the other end of the line through the cheesecloth, near the top of the egg and reach inside and pull it out through a nearby gap. Now tie a spider to it and gently pull the line back till the spider is seen resting against the inside of the egg.
  • To create a string of spiders, use more clear fishing lines. In order to tie the spiders to the egg, thread one end of the line through the cheesecloth and out of a gap, then knot the line and pull the knot gently back inside the egg. To attach more spiders to the egg, simply poke 2 to 3 legs through the cheesecloth.

Pumpkin Made Out of a Milk Container

Things You Will Need Are:

  • A Pen or a Pencil
  • A Pair of Scissors
  • A Hot Glue Gun
  • A Sponge Brush Applicator
  • Tea Light (Flickering and Battery Operated)
  • Some Brown Felt
  • A Plastic Milk Container With Lid (Gallon)
  • A Bottle of Orange Acrylic Enamel or Gloss Paint

How to Make the Pumpkin:

  • To begin, lightly draw a Jack-o’-Lantern face in the front of the milk container. Next, cut out the features with a pair of scissors. Then cut a flap in the back of the milk container. Ensure that it is large enough to fit a small bag full of sand or a handful of rocks. This is to weigh the milk container down.
  • Now paint the milk container with three coats of the orange acrylic enamel or gloss paint. Remember to allow it to dry in between the coats. Now, hold the tea light upside down and place it inside the mouth of the pumpkin. Make changes to the opening, if needed. Once you have done that, take the tea light out and put it aside.
  • After you have completed the above steps, take the brown felt and cut out a rectangle. Make it large enough to fit around the mouth of the milk container. Using hot glue, line the inside of the area ensuring that the excess felt is folded down. Once it is done, glue it in place. When following this step, ensure that the tea light fits snugly when facing downwards. Take care not to glue it in place as you need to replace the battery when it dies!
  • Now insert the rocks or bag of sand into the back flap of the pumpkin and put the pumpkin out on the porch. Turn on the flickering tea light when night falls and watch people look at your home with envy!
