Its already September, with Christmas just around the corner, soon it will be time to bring out the Christmas tree and the Christmas tree ornaments, decorate the house, mail the Christmas cards, go shopping for family and friends and bake lots of goodies! But before I go on, I would like to share with you some information about Christmas ornaments of the past. Did you know that until the middle 19th century, Christmas ornaments were all handmade" Yes, they were! Homeowners used all kinds of things, such as scraps of cloth, pinecones and wood to create Christmas decorations. This scenario carried on until the 1870’s, during which Christmas ornaments began appearing on the shelves. The Christmas tree ornaments at this time were made of lead and were in the shape of crosses, butterflies and stars.   Glass ornaments that were manufactured in Germany were soon introduced into the market. These ornaments were beautiful and carefully manufactured by the Germans who were famous for manufacturing Christmas ornaments of the highest quality. The Germans had about 5000 ornament molds and many glass blowing workshops in which they manufactured these beautiful glass ornaments. It was in the 1880’s that F.W Woolworth, filled his shelves with glass ornaments, thinking that they wouldn’t sell. He was in for a surprise because by the 1890’s he was importing an incredibly large number of glass ornaments a year. He is said to have sold the ornaments at 5 – 10 cents per ornament, selling at least ornaments worth 25 million dollars. Today Christmas ornaments are not only made of glass but also of plastic. This is because apart from being more durable, plastic can be molded into any shape. Other materials used to create Christmas tree ornaments today are wood and pewter (along with other metals).   Today the market is flooded with Christmas tree decorations of all kinds, the lights come in many styles and colors so that you can select one that matches the tree and goes well with the rest of the interiors. Hanging Christmas tree decorations also need special mention as there is a wide range available. To mention a few , you have the option of buying a silver snowflake, gingerbread, candy cane, angels, reindeer, Santa boots, ballet shoes and of course beautifully crafted glass balls! If you want something different, you could opt for the Swarovski rhinestone Christmas decorations. Exquisite and personalized, your tree will surely shine and you will be the envy of others!   To give your Christmas tree a new look this season you can use bows and ribbons instead of balls or globes. You can choose from multicolored or even plaid ribbons that can be found in traditional Christmas colors or you can opt for the solid ribbons and use contrasting color. If you would like to further experiment with the look of your Christmas tree try using something else on top of the tree instead of the traditional star. You could choose a doll or a soft toy or any other thing that reflects the personality of the members of the household. Instead of buying the hanging tree decorations mentioned above you could also go natural this year and use pine cones, nuts and natural looking plants and animals on your tree. It is important to remember that you can get Christmas tree ornaments that suit your pocket. To get the best deals watch out for sales, visit websites for good bargains or just take a walk and visit different stores, you might just be surprised at what you can actually get within your budget. Hope you have fun shopping for Christmas Tree Decorations!
